Gel stain isn't like regular stain in that it doesn't soak into wood. instead it goes on top of whatever it is wiped onto. like i mentioned before, it isn't necessarily made to go over paint. however, we knew we wanted beams to look like wood, and we also knew we were not going to strip the paint off the wood with a stripper or a sander.. I’m sharing how to restain wood without stripping today! i use a simple product, and a simple process, to do this. read on! hey, hey beautiful friends! i’ve got a super simple little diy for you guys today. i had planned to share a brand new (old) piece of furniture that i am giving a makeover to, today.. how to restain wood beams
Painting the beam. painting is usually a last-ditch solution for exposed wood beams, but if the water stains are stubborn or if you don't relish a lengthy refinishing process, it's good solution.. Don’t worry if the beams look dull, mine looked really dull and lost that sheen from the varnish. once the beams have been lightly sanded, use the shop vac again to get rid of any dust left. then it is time to varnish again! i found during the first varnish, i had to load up my brush as the wood really soaked in the varnish..
